Details of the layout.

The different elements are separated and clearly differentiated. This is done by using a mixture of colour, positioning and white space. The border clearly delimits the elements and the background colour reinforces this. White space is an import part of defining the elements. There is a 10 pixel gap between the border and the text. There is also a 20 pixel gap between the elements of the text.

Colour in this site is less important than in many sites. A very minimalist colour scheme was deliberately in order not to dominate any other elements of the site. Black text on a white background has been the way that the majority of textual information has been presented for hundreds of years. This means that readers can concentrate of the text without worrying about the connotations of the colour scheme as black and white has no cultural associations. The grey background for the space on the page was chosen to be as neutral as possible. It is literally empty space and nothing else. Orange was chosen as simply as it is a warm, highly saturated colour that makes it easy to pick up. It is used as sparingly as possible for delimiting elements or defining hyperlinks.
